Overview

Relax and unwind on our seven night Sao Miguel self-catering holiday.

More than any other Azorean island, Sao Miguel’s landscapes are an incredibly diverse mix – you could almost say a best of the Azores, as though the unique natural wonders of the other eight islands had been conveniently brought together in one place.

The island’s largest caldera is in the west: Sete Cidades, where you’ll spend time exploring its extraordinary beauty on foot and by kayak. Furnas is to the east: one the island’s oldest calderas with its still-active geysers and hot springs, Furnas is home to the 200-year-old Parque Terra Nostra and the Azores’ most-famous geothermal swimming pool. You’ll also have time to absorb Azorean culture in the capital Ponta Delgada – a warm and welcoming city where everything is accessible on foot, including many of the island’s best restaurants.

Your home for the week is the one-bedroom Casa do Jardim – one of our favourite traditional-style Azorean cottages, located in the secluded Baixa da Areia bay on Sao Miguel’s south coast. Airport transfers are included, and once you’re settled in we’ll deliver a hire car to allow you to explore at your leisure. We’ll also include a whale and dolphin watching trip and you can personalise your holiday by adding a few of our favourite activities.
