Your holiday begins in the very heart of the Azorean capital Ponta Delgada with a three-night stay at Casa da Galeria. Ponta Delgada’s a modern European city with an outward looking, cosmopolitan disposition that’s reflected in its welcoming population, its cuisine, and its mix of traditional and contemporary architecture. The city’s also well-connected to the outside world by air: to London, Lisbon, Boston and Toronto.

You’ll explore Ponta Delgada on foot, and we’ll supply a hire car so you can explore the magnificent landscapes of western Sao Miguel and the Sete Cidades caldera. Leaving the city behind, you’ll head to the rural east of the island for a four-night stay at the delightful Quinta da Mo in the Furnas valley. Furnas is famous for its hot springs and geothermal swimming pools which are just a short walk from your bungalow.

You’ll also have a chance to tour the less-visited eastern side of Sao Miguel – towns like Povoacao and Nordeste which most visitors to the island often miss. There’s a ruggedness to the land and a doggedness to the people here, and these small farming and fishing communities keep one foot firmly planted in the past. That’s part of their charm and you’re guaranteed the traditionally warm Azorean welcome.
