The options for flying to the Azores are looking better than ever for 2022. Make the most of this summer’s direct flights on our Sao Miguel and Terceira island hopping holiday.

When we visit the Azores, we love to hop from island-to-island – and one of our favourite combinations has to be Sao Miguel and Terceira. Sao Miguel’s famous for its volcanic hot springs, magnificent calderas and secluded crater lakes. In the capital city Ponta Delgada, you’ll immerse yourself in Azorean culture at the Grand Hotel Azores Atlantico – one of our favourite city centre hotels, combining modern luxury with panoramic sea views over Ponta Delgada’s bustling Portas do Mar marina. Terceira has something different to offer – historic architecture, superb Azorean cuisine and  many of our favourite wild-swimming spots in the Azores.

Both islands are well-connected to the outside world – British Airways’ new summer service will fly direct from Heathrow to Sao Miguel on Saturdays, bringing you home from Terceira on Sundays. And of course, you can fly via Lisbon most days from Manchester and Gatwick, and on selected days from Edinburgh, Bristol and Luton.

We’ve suggested a eight-night stay but you could easily extend your holiday to a full two weeks – just fill out an enquiry form below and we’ll do the rest.

You’ll begin your holiday by flying direct from Heathrow to the main Azores island of Sao Miguel. You’ll be collected on arrival by our driver for your transfer into Ponta Delgada (a ten-minute drive).
You’ll spend your first morning exploring Ponta Delgada; capital of the Azores and the main town on the island. In the afternoon, you’ll head down to the local marina for a three-hour whale and dolphin watching trip. The seas around the Azores are one of the best places to observe ocean wildlife, and Atlantic-spotted dolphins and sperm whales can be seen throughout the year.
You’ll head to the western end of Sao Miguel for a full day tour of the great crater at Sete Cidades, the largest caldera on the island. You’ll visit the famous view point at Vista do Rei, the west coast of villager Mosteiros and the geothermal seawater pools at Ponta Ferraria.
You’ll head east today on a guided tour of the famous Furnas valley, with visits to the cooking holes at Lagoa das Furnas, the geysers at Chã das Caldeiras, the 200-year-old Terra Nostra botanical gardens - home to the town’s most famous, geothermal swimming pool – and the Gorreana tea plantation.
You’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to the island of Terceira. You’ll be collected on arrival by our driver for your transfer into the historic city of Angra de Heroismo.
For your first morning, you’ll take a walking tour of historic Angra, with visits to the miradouro Adro Santo viewpoint, Solar do Provedor das Armadas, the Jardim Duque de Angra and the Sé Cathedral: the largest religious building in the Azores.
You’ll explore the wider island today with visits to the Serra do Cume, Praia da Vitoria, the seawater pools in Biscoitos, and the volcanic caves at Algar do Carvao.
For your final day, you’ll take a stroll up to the summit of Monte Brasil - the extinct volcano that overlooks Angra Bay.
You’ll be transferred to the airport for your direct flight home.
