Casa das Pedras

The secluded south-coast village of Caloura is one of our favourite spots on the main island of Sao Miguel – and one our best-loved family cottages is Casa das Pedras.

This traditional lava-stone house sits at the western-end of Caloura, within a pleasant walled garden (shared with Casa do Jardim) with a terrace and BBQ, and the beach at Praia da Baixa da Areia is a short walk away.

Inside, the house is entirely modern: there’s a well-equipped open-plan kitchen/lounge/diner on the ground floor, and two double bedrooms and two shower rooms. On the open-plan first floor mezzanine, there’s a third double bedroom which leads to a smaller single bedroom. Casa das Pedras sleeps up to seven, and it’s easily combined with one-bedroom Casa do Jardim if you’re travelling as a larger family or with a group of friends.

Please note: both Casa das Pedras and Casa do Jardim come with friendly dogs, which live within the shared walled gardens. If you’re not a fan of dogs, please let us know and we’ll suggested an equally lovely, pet-free alternative.
