The owner Emanuela and her family live still in the farmhouse and it was her inspiration to convert the extensive gardens into a rural retreat for guests and Quinta de Santana was one of the first examples of rural tourism on the island.
The extensive (2 hectares) gardens include fruit orchards, a large lawn, woods and an outdoor swimming pool (open May-October). Conveniently located, the Quinta is just 15km from Ponta Delgada and 8km from the Batalha golf course. Other facilities include a breakfast room, restaurant, lounge, small bar, reception, games room and children’s play area.
Quinta de Santana offers 21 apartments (16 one bedroom and 5 two bedroom) set in the gardens each with living room/kitchen, bathroom, twin/double bedrooms, cable TV, hair driers and telephone. There are two types of apartment; those that are more traditional and were built during the original conversion and more modern newer ones that were part of the second phase. There are no washing machines in the apartment but each one has a laundry bag and price list, so you can have your laundry done while you stay.
