Overview
Casa Tia Garcia is a traditional-style, two-bedroom cottage on the sunny south coast of Faial.
Tia Garcia is located in the small village of Areeiro, bordered by the twin calderas of Cabeco do Fogo and Cabeco dos Trinta to the north, and by the pretty Varadouro coast to the south. The casa is an excellent example of rural Faialense architecture, with it’s whitewashed, basalt stone walls, it’s vaulted wooden ceilings and it’s burnt-orange tiled floors.
All the mod-cons are here too, and there’s a lovely contrast between the old and the new. In actual fact, the majority of the homes in Areeiro were extensively renovated after the infamous 1957 eruption at Capelinhos, and it’s to the credit of owner Eduardina and her family that they were able to retain the original, rural-feel of the casa.
There are two bedrooms, one double one twin, a shower room, a bathroom, two comfortable living rooms and a well-equipped kitchen. Outside, there’s a covered wood-fired BBQ and a hand-carved, family-sized table for alfresco dining in the evenings.
