Villa Palacio is a four bedroom, traditional-style Azorean house in the south coast village of Caloura.
With it’s bright, sunny microclimate, the small village of Caloura has been one of our most-popular destinations on Sao Miguel for over twenty years. Centrally located on island’s south coast, it’s the perfect base for exploring the island by car, with both the capital Ponta Delgada and the famous Furnas hot springs just a twenty-minute drive away.
For a family stay in Caloura, the Villa Palacio is ideal, with it’s three double bedrooms, one twin room, a well-equipped kitchen and a large living room/diner. There’s an inviting warmth to the traditional-style décor, which reflects owners Joao and Manuela’s love of Azorean period furnishings.
You’ll inevitably spend most of your time in the spacious garden, with it’s outdoor kitchen, barbecue and dining area. Azoreans love alfresco dining and you’ll have everything you need to create your very own authentic Azorean cuisine. If you prefer to leave the cooking to the professionals, it’s a short stroll down to Caloura’s pretty fishing harbour – home to the famous Bar Caloura, where you can sample the best fresh fish available on Sao Miguel.
For a morning swim, the nearby Piscina de Caloura is one of the most popular outdoor seawater pools on the south coast, and the naturally secluded beach at Praia da Baixa d’Areia can genuinely be described as a hidden gem.
