Casa do Pomar is a newly built house in the quiet outskirts of Santa Cruz; capital of Graciosa and the main town on the island.
Designed and built by husband and wife team Alvaro and Venessa Fonseca, Casa do Pomar is all on ground level – with a spacious and well-equipped kitchen diner, and a comfortable living room which opens out onto the private garden and sun terrace running the full length of the building. There are two bedrooms which can be configured as doubles or twins, and a large shared bathroom (with a bathtub and shower). The bright-white walls, simple lines and beautifully engineered Japanese Cedar roofbeams all help give the property a light, airy feel. If you’re a family with two young children, this would be the ideal place to stay for a quiet, relaxing week – and Alvaro and Venessa are great hosts.
Graciosa is a peaceful, friendly island which is great if you’re looking for a relaxing stay. There are some excellent hiking trails, and equally lovely swimming spots (including the thermal baths at Termas). A visit to the magnificent Furna do Enxofre lava cave is a must. The Quinta is a great base from which to explore Graciosa – we recommend including a hire car to allow you to explore the island. It also makes it easier when you fancy popping into nearby Santa Cruz for any shopping or dinner in the evenings.
