Dutch-born with parents from the Maluku islands in the Indonesian Archipelago (the biggest archipelago in the world), I have lived and worked in the UK for the past 20 years. Although I am a trained radio journalist, I have spent most of my life working in the travel industry. I have travelled independently all over the globe and then started working as a tour manager in destinations as varied as Alaska, India and Tanzania.
After a few years of doing this, I no longer wanted to live out of my rucksack and found a job working for a specialist tour operator. It’s great to be able to share your travel experiences with other people on a daily basis. After many years, the passion hasn’t faded, and I am still adding new countries to my list!
Cape Verde is a great destination as it has the perfect combination of mountains, culture and of course offers a slice of Africa, my favourite continent. As a keen walker and climber, I do like my mountains. So it’s no surprise that my favourite Cape Verdean island is Fogo, where you can wander through the colourful town of Sao Filipe, walk through the lunar landscape of Cha das Caldeiras where the stargazing at night is amazing, and climb to top of the highest volcano Pico de Fogo with its’ breath-taking views.
