Overview

During your self guided cycling holiday on Pico Island in the Azores, you will cycle for 4 to 6 days with distances from 25 – 30km each day and some gradients but nothing too steep.

Highlights along the way include seeing the dramatic lava coastline, popping in for wine tastings at the cooperatives, visiting the whaling museums, taking a trip out to see the whales and dolphins and of course, glorious views of Mount Pico.

 

Itinerary

Fly London to Faial via Lisbon. Transfer to your accommodation in Horta (20mins). Overnight Hotel do Canal
Transfer from hotel to ferry terminal (5mins). Ferry from Faial to Pico (30mins - €4 per person payable locally). You will be met at Madalena ferry terminal by our driver with your bikes. He will then transfer your luggage to your accommodation and you will cycle to your accommodation in São Roque (25km). Overnight Casa das Barcas.
Today you will cycle from São Roque to Piedade (25km) and your luggage will be transferred separately. Overnight O Zimbreiro for 2 nights.
Free day for rides around Piedade.
Cycle from Piedade to Lajes (25km). Your luggage will be transferred separately. Overnight Hotel Whale'come ao Pico for 2 nights.
3 hour whale and dolphin watching trip from Lajes (April - October) or a driver guided tour of Pico (November - March).
Cycle from Lajes to Madalena (30km). Your luggage will be transferred separately and handed over to you by our driver at Madalena ferry terminal. He will collect the bikes from you there. Ferry from Pico to Faial (30mins - €4 per person payable locally). You will be met at Horta ferry terminal and transferred to your hotel. Overnight Hotel do Canal.
Transfer to airport for your flight to London.

During your week, you'll be staying at a mix of small hotels and lovely guesthouses all close to the sea on the islands of Faial and Pico.

Activities

Cycling the coastal roads of Pico, you'll be able to stop along the way at the natural rock pools for a refreshing swim and the pretty fishing villages and their local cafés.

Location

The most obviously volcanic of all the Azorean islands with its volcanic peak (Mt Pico 2351m), the quiet coastline and undulating roads make for an ideal week of exploration.
