Based at the lovely 17th century manor house, Quinta da Terça, on São Miguel for the first 4 nights of your Horse riding week on São Miguel & Faial, you’ll have one half day ride and one full day ride as detailed in the itinerary below exploring the north coast one day and the magical Sete Cidades crater lake the next.
The Quinta is an ideal base for riders, with their own stables, indoor schooling arena and pure and cross bred Lusitano horses suitable for all abilities. Your stay at Quinta da Terça during the Horse riding week on São Miguel & Faial is on bed and breakfast basis.
You then fly to the smaller island of Faial where you stay at the lovely Patio Lodge, a restored Azorean farm building next to the stables and owners, Anja and Victor’s, home at Quinta do Moinho where you will eat all your meals as there are no restaurants nearby, for the final 3 nights of your Horse riding week on São Miguel & Faial. Anja and Victor are wonderful hosts and trail riders having converted Quinta do Moinho, a 200 year old barn and windmill, into a family home and stables. They have up to 12 horses in their herd living out in the meadows and barn. Their Lusitano cross horses are on average 7 years young! Anja, is the horse specialist and trainer having trained at the Horse Academy of Cologne, Germany and Victor, is the trail guide (German Trail Rider Academy). You will find their horses cooperative, hard-working and relaxed companions with a maximum height of 1.55m.
