Overview

Our Azores island-hopping Family Holiday is a great way to explore two of our favourite islands: Sao Miguel and Faial.

Sao Miguel’s an exciting, bustling place to be in the summertime – great if you like exploring new places and we can give you plenty of ways to exhaust the kids. Faial’s a very different island – it’s peaceful, relaxing; there’s a much slower pace of life on Faial, making it the ideal place to wind-down and enjoy spending time together. What’s common to both islands is that you’ll be welcomed with open arms.

We can include a whale and dolphin watching trip during your stay on Sao Miguel – canyoning’s also an exhilarating, fun-packed family day out and a visit to Sao Miguel wouldn’t be complete without a day exploring the great crater at Sete Cidades. The guide prices we’ve popped in below include four activities, so we can help you to pick & mix the ones that most appeal to you.

You’ll inevitably spend time in Faial’s capital Horta – home to some marvellous early 19th Century architecture. You’ll also explore Faial’s the ever-verdurous Caldeira do Cabeço Gordo and the beautifully-barren landscapes of the Vulcão dos Capelinhos peninsula.

Itinerary

You'll begin by flying from the UK to Sao Miguel. Our driver will collect you from your flight for the fifteen-minute drive to your accommodation.
We’ll arrange for your hire car will be delivered at 10:00 to allow you to begin exploring the wider island. In the afternoon, you’ll head to the marina in the nearby town of Vila Franca, for a whale and dolphin watching trip from the local marina.
You might like to spend today exploring Ponta Delgada; capital of the Azores and the main town on the island.
You might like to head west today, to spend the day exploring the great crater at Sete Cidades.
Heading east, you could spend today swimming in the geothermal pools and hot springs in Furnas.
If you’d like a more energetic day, you might like to include a guided canyoning trip.
For your final full day on Sao Miguel, you might like to walk the Lagoa do Fogo trail - the island’s most popular Levada trail.
You'll return your hire car to the airport, before flying to the island of Faial. You'll collect a new hire car on arrival at Faial airport before driving to your new accommodation.
You’ll head into Horta today – the main harbour town on the island.
You'll spend today with our resident guide on a guided jeep tour of Faial.
You might like to drive down to Varadouro for a swim in the natural rock pools. Rather than packing a picnic lunch, we often prefer to pack BBQ supplies: there are lots of purpose built public BBQ areas dotted around the island - you just need to bring your charcoal, utensils and food.
You might like to catch the morning ferry to the neighbouring island of Pico for a guided tour. Pico’s just a short, thirty-minute ferry ride across the channel from Horta and our resident guide offers a number of different tours.
Another of our favourite swimming spot is the bay at Porto Pim - spend the morning at Praia Porto Pim beach, with an afternoon stroll up the nearby extinct volcano Monta da Guia.
Time for a last relaxing day on Faial, with a bit of packing before tomorrow flight home.
You'll return your hire car to the airport before flying home.
