Do British Airways fly to the Azores?

Do British Airways fly to the Azores?  The easy answer is yes, but please read on…

British Airways has today (15th September 2022) announced that it will be flying to the islands of São Miguel and Terceira in the stunning Azores Archipelago from Heathrow next summer.

These new flights will operate once a week from summer 2022, with São Miguel launching on July 2 until September 3 and Terceira on 10 July until August 28.

The Azores Archipelago is made up of nine sub-tropical volcanic islands, often described as ‘Like New Zealand, but much closer’.  The islands are well known for their interesting take on gastronomy and ‘old world wines’ as well as their stunning landscapes and are the perfect destination for anyone who loves the natural world and active holidays.  The island of Terceira is home to Angra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the centre of the island still contains large areas of native flora within its stunning laurel forests. São Miguel, is the largest of the islands and offers a flavour of the other 8, it’s home to the crater Lakes of Sete Cidades, affectionately know as ‘The Lake of Seven Cities’, one of the seven natural wonders of Portugal.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances, said: “After a difficult 18 months, it’s fantastic to be in a position to launch two new routes next summer from Heathrow. These two Islands in the Azores will be the perfect addition to our network, offering more choice in one of the most popular regions in Europe for British nature lovers.”

British Airways will operate an Airbus 320 to both islands, with up to 180 seats. Customers travelling in the airline’s Euro Traveller (economy) cabin can pre-purchase items from the Speedbird Café, which includes a range from Tom Kerridge, in advance of travel, or can order additional snacks and drinks on board the flight directly to their seat using their mobile device.

The airline’s customers travelling in Club Europe (business class) have access to priority check in, lounges and restaurant style complimentary dining, including items from the airline’s new ‘Best of British’ menus.

These new direct flight by British Airways’ to the Azores offers travellers a much needed alternative to flying on the current ‘budget’ airlines or flying via Lisbon.

Customers booking with British Airways can do so with absolute confidence, thanks to the airline’s flexible booking policy. Customers are able to exchange their booking for a voucher or move their dates without incurring a change fee if their plans change.
