Casa das Barcas is an elegantly converted 5 bedroom guesthouse, it was built in the 17th Century and is located on the sea front in the former whaling town of São Roque on the North coast of Pico.
The manor house offers the perfect balance of old and new, providing modern facilities whilst retaining many of its original features. Casa das Barcas’ grand first floor lounge and expansive windows provide excellent views of the Atlantic and the surrounding mountains, together with an open fire, comfortable sofas, antique furniture and some fascinating maritime memorabilia.
There are 5 ensuite rooms, three sun terraces (with access to an excellent viewpoint overlooking São Jorge), and a large garden, with easy access to the sea (via a staircase and stone pier only 30m from the front door).
Minimum stay : 3 nights at Casa das Barcas.
São Roque itself is one of the two ferry ports on the island and there is an interesting, recently refurbished whaling museum to explore just 5 minutes walk from the house. We would recommend hiring a car if staying here. The property is 30 minutes drive from Madalena, 20 minutes from the airport, and 25 minutes from Lajes on the island of Pico. See below for more information on Pico island.
Located 25 minutes drive from one of the best whale watching companies in the Azores, it is also ideally positioned for a cycling tour round Pico being on the coastal road. In the summer there are also regular ferries to Faial and São Jorge.
