Ao Mercado CC Guest House

The Ao Mercado CC Guest House is a beautifully restored townhouse in the centre of the Azorean capital Ponta Delgada.

Brother and sister duo Francisco and Maria Carreiro rescued the building from falling into disrepair and they’ve overseen wonderful restoration project. The house is full of light, and the tasteful decor and preservation of the original woodwork and decorative plasterwork creates a feeling of a timeless space.

The experience starts with the tiled entrance hall leading to the accommodation based on the first floor. There’s a large shared living room and a breakfast area indoors – and space for outdoor living in the town house garden to the rear of the property. The bedrooms are comfortable and large and there are options with both private and shared bathrooms. As a base in the city the house is ideal – opposite the bustling Mercado de Graca (from which is takes it’s name) and the Teatro Micaelense: the cultural heart of the city. And as always, it’s a short walk to the Portas do Mar marina if you’re planning to include a whale and dolphin watching trip during your stay.

If you’re a cyclist, there’s no better place to stay than the Ao Mercado CC Guest House.
