Overview

Explore an incomparable landscape of cascading waterfalls and stunning ocean sunsets on our Flores Activity Holiday.

Arguably the most beautiful island in the archipelago, Flores marks the most-westerly point of Europe. You’ll be staying in the most westerly village, at the bohemian Argonauta guesthouse: it’s a grand location, bordered by the island’s famous sea cliffs and waterfalls to the east, and the wild Atlantic Ocean to the west.

Your week includes a canyoning trip which can be tailored for beginners and experts alike, and a guided jeep tour of the island’s crater lakes. You’ll also have a chance to visit the neighbouring island of Corvo – the smallest of the nine Azorean islands, with its sheer cliffs and iconic 700m high caldera.

Flores doesn’t have an international airport, so we’ll top-and-tail your holiday with a stay on the main island Sao Miguel, and the birds eye views as you fly between islands is always a memorable highlight to any Azores holiday.

Itinerary

You’ll begin your holiday by flying to the main Azores island of Sao Miguel. You’ll be collected on arrival by our driver for your transfer into Ponta Delgada for an overnight stay.
You'll return to the airport for your flight to the island of Flores. Internal flights are all part of the Azorean experience and enroute you'll pass the islands of Terceira, Pico, Sao Jorge and Faial. Your host Stefano will collect you on arrival for your transfer to Faja Grande on the beautiful west coast.
You’ll take a tour of Flores with our resident guide, visiting Santa Cruz, the Ponta de Albarbaz lighthouse, Sete Lagoas, Rocha dos Bordoes and Fajazinha.
We’ll include a guided canyoning session. You’ll follow a mountain stream through a narrow forest gulley as it winds its way to the valley floor, abseiling down waterfalls, scrambling, and jumping into deep pools. Safety is paramount and you’ll be thoroughly briefed in advance of your first descent, and our guide will be with you every step of the way.
You’ll be transferred to the southern village of Lajedo - the starting point for the Lajedo to Faja Grande trail. Your route takes you north, via the abandoned village of Caldeira and the Miradouro do Portal, to one of the Azores’ most iconic locations: the semi-tropical Lagoa dos Patas lagoon, where a dozen individual waterfalls cascade down from high Morro Alto plain.
You’ll head across the channel on a RIB to neighbouring island of Corvo. Tiny Corvo is the smallest of all the islands in the Azores. The southern end of the island around Vila is fairly flat, whereas the sheer cliffs of the north, east and west coasts all give way to the vast volcanic crater which dominates the island.
You'll be transferred to the airport for your return to Sao Miguel and an overnight stay in Ponta Delgada,
You’ll be transferred to airport for your flight home.
